A Little About Me
About Me
My name is James Stephenson and I am a photographer, videographer, and graphic designer. I found my passion for photography when I was about 14 years old. I began taking pictures of everything with our family’s Kodak digital camera. I began to learn how to compose an image, understand lighting, and how to capture important memories that are still with me in my photographs, years later.
During my junior and senior year of high school, I attended Penta Career Center in Perysburg, OH which is a public vocational high school. The school offers over 20+ trade skills that high school students can choose from to focus in. I became a student in the Digital Video Production program. This program taught me video and broadcast news production, allowed me to use my creativity with video projects, and placed 2nd in the 2012 state SkillsUSA Video Product Development competition. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a student in the DVP program and gained a lot of knowledge in video production, that I still carry with me.
I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science in Technology degree from Bowling Green State University in 2016 from the Visual Communication Technology major. This major taught me the importance of creative design and how to implement it so that it provides clear and effective communication for whatever use you are using it for. The Visual Communication Technology major allows students to be educated in four different tracks: Web Design, Print, Photography, and Video. I focused on the Photography and Video tracks. During my time as a student in the major, I was required to complete 3 internships/co-ops prior to graduating. Two of my internships were with the Bowling Green State University Athletics department as a Multimedia Production Assistant for almost two years. During my time with the Athletics Department, I gained real-world experience in my field. I assisted in creating graphics, motion graphics, videos, etc. that were used as promotional material and presented during the live athletic student games as well as uploaded to the Athletics YouTube page. It was a wonderful experience and I had a terrific supervisor who helped teach me and grow as a creator. I enjoyed my time as a student in the VCT program at BGSU and graduated with good connections with my teachers and classmates.
Since college graduation, I’ve performed freelance photography for family, friends, and people. I’ve photographed: family events, senior pictures (both high school and college), engagements, and weddings. I enjoy photographing people and capturing special moments that they may keep to preserve the special occasion.
